S/4 HANA Target Design Knowledge Pack

Overview

This topic provides a step-by-step procedure that explains how a user can install the S/4 HANA Target Design Knowledge Pack.

NOTE: If installing into an ADM instance that currently has content, the installation may fail due to the objects that have the same name. If this happens, the names of existing overlapping objects may need to be temporarily changed to allow the installation to succeed.

This topic contains the following sections:

Install the Knowledge Pack

To install the Knowledge Pack:

  1. Complete the Stewardship Tier installation.

  2. Locate the file {BOA Install Directory}\Databases\Install_S4HANA_TARGET_DESIGN_KNOWLEDGE_PACK.bat.

  1. Right-click the file and select Run as Administrator.

  2. After the execution of this file completes, verify the Knowledge Pack installation by logging in to the Stewardship Tier.

  3. Click Advanced Data Migration in the Navigation pane.

If the installation is successful, the Waves page includes the Knowledge Pack's wave MASTER_S4.

Use the Knowledge Pack in ADM

Syniti recommends that users copy objects from the MASTER_S4 wave into a wave specific to their migration project. This approach is recommended because the S/4HANA Target Design Knowledge Pack includes 170+ objects across different processes / industries so does not reflect the scope of a typical project.

The following screenshots illustrate an example using two waves:

  • The MASTER_S4 wave installed from the Knowledge Pack

  • A sample wave called ECC_WAVE that the team is using to execute their migration project

NOTE: The Knowledge Pack content is designed under the assumption that the MANDT field is removed/filtered out by Collect thereby assuming a single client.

To use the Knowledge Pack in ADM:

  1. Create the dsw/migration databases and associated data source registry records required for the project. Refer to Register a Data Source in Common in the help for more information.

NOTE: Syniti recommends that a dsw database / data source is created for each Wave / Process Area combination and that the naming convention follows the Wave / Process Area.

  2. Create a Report Cache Data Source with a 1:1 relationship to each migration object database. Refer to Register a Data Source in Common in the help for more information.

  3. Create a new Wave.

  4. Assign Process Areas to that Wave that are in scope for the project.

NOTE: Syniti recommended that projects try to use the delivered Process Areas; however, if project workstream names deviate from these, then creating project specific process areas is fine.

Next, copy an object from the Knowledge Pack to the migration project’s Wave Process Area.

  1. On the Waves page, click the Process Areas icon for the MASTER S4 wave.

  2. Click the Objects icon for the Wave/Process Area containing the object to be copied.

  3. Select the object on the Process Area : Object page and click the Copy icon in the page toolbar.

  1. Click Edit.

  2. Select the Wave Process Area for your migration project in the Copy to Process Area list box.

  3. Click Save.

  4. Click the Copy Object icon in the Page toolbar.

The object, target tables and target table fields from the Knowledge Pack object are now copied to the selected Wave / Process Area.

To further configure the objects:

  1. Ensure the Active check mark is checked for each object on the Process Area : Object page’s Horizontal View.

  2. Click the Vertical View icon.

  3. If the object is not active, click the Activate Deactivate icon.

  4. Select the data sources created for each object from the Data Source ID and Report Cache Data Source ID List boxes.

  5. Click Save.

Next, link objects that include Target Data Design to the System Type of the Target System in scope for the project. This ensures that the Target Design includes all fields in the specific Target S/4HANA system and that the lookup tables used for value mapping are integrated with other objects used in the wave.

NOTE: If you already have an S/4 HANA system type and you’ve bult it, refresh from this system type schema. If you don’t have an S/4 HANA system type already connected a baseline system type (at 1709) is included in this package that you can use. Refer to the section Install S/4 HANA System Type for more information.

NOTE: The sync to System Types is non-destructive.

To complete the target design by importing fields:

  1. Click Design in the Context menu.

  2. Click the Objects icon.

  3. Click the Targets icon for an object.

  4. Click Edit for an object and select the Target System from the System Type ID list box.

  5. Click Save.

  1. Click the Import Fields icon.

  1. Review the Target Design to ensure lookup tables have been added.
